CKI History

|
|
Circle K started in 1936 as a fraternity under the Greek letters Kappa Iota Phi at Washington State University by the Pullman Kiwanis Club, and was organized by Jay N. Emerson. During his term as Kiwanis International President in 1946, his idea spread throughout International, and the first Circle K club was built the following year at Carthage College. In the next eight years, 168 Kiwanis Clubs started to sponsor Circle K clubs. In Philadelphia in 1955, Circle K became an international organization under the sponsorship of Kiwanis. In 1956, the Circle K International Office was created in the General Office of Kiwanis.
